What a tablao night is like
A tablao is flamenco up close: a small room, a low platform, and a compact group of singer, dancer and guitarist only steps from your chair. At Las Tablas — a Madrid room people rate for its dancers — that adds up to an intense sort of evening, footwork ringing up through the floor and the singer's voice filling the space. You feel this show as much as watch it, and the small size is exactly why it lands.
Choosing your showtime
There tend to be a couple of shows across the evening. Choose the earlier one for a long Spanish dinner afterwards, or the later one to finish off a day spent seeing the centre. Either way, aim to get there a little ahead so you can settle in with a drink before the cuadro comes on. Your showtime is set the moment you book.
Where to sit
In a room this size there's no real dud seat, but the front stands out — near enough to feel the zapateado through the floor and catch every turn of a wrist or tilt of a head. Seats are generally sorted within your ticket category, so getting in early gives you a shot at the best one going.
Build a central-Madrid evening
Las Tablas is beside Plaza de España, a short walk from Gran Vía, the Royal Palace and the Sabatini Gardens, so wrap the show inside the centre: tapas and a glass of wine nearby, a stroll across the square, then flamenco. With free cancellation up to 24 hours before, you can pin down a night now and rework your Madrid plans later.
